I didn't know that people had this much interest in reading the lyrics of Assyrian songs. Every now and then, we get an email to the website asking us to provide them the lyrics to a certain Assyrian song. And while there already is more than one site dedicated to Assyruan songs lyrics, we will dedicate this to Assyrian song lyrics too.

We will provide both the lyrics as well as an English translation. This way, we have both an appreciation for the meaning as well as to learn some Assyrian along the way.

-If you have special request for a specific song, please provide us with the details: singer, song title, album year etc. Of course, the easiest way is to provide us with a link to the actual song itself (you can find some on our music site: www.assyrianvoice.net/music)

Kha men lelawatet d'Nineveh
Tpeqle be de ninweta
-On one of Nineveh's (capital of Assyria) nights , I met with that Assyrian woman from the city

Gu shmaya leqtanta d'Nineveh
Ayakh chikhweh dqedamta
On Nineveh's bright sky, and the morning stars

Lelawate paykheh d'Nineveh
Nineveh's cool nights
Melyee men shimshee sara
Brightened with the moonlight
Tlaneto mpelta gu meya
Her shadow reflecting in the water
Tota alee b'spara
Sitting there, waiting for me

Toole al marzet nara, mshurele be zmara, bout lelawanet d'nineveh
I sat on the edge of the river, started to sing about Nineveh's nights
Ktawet alpa w Kha lele, qrelan men ouydale, gu lelawatet d'Nineveh
We read the book of 'One thousand and one nights' together, on these Nineveh nights
Nouret plasha tpele, beelan prasha dreele, liban men khisha mlele
Then the fire of war erupted, and that caused us to separate, and our hearts were full with sorrow
Rikhqa men ouydale, be sparekh kul lele, al lelawatet d'Nineveh
Away from each other, we are waiting each night, for the Nineveh nights to come back

Tole al kharabet d'Nineveh, pkhele bikhya marera.
I sat on the ruins of Nineveh, and cried in pure sorrow
Qa do kole shopro khqeera, tewa Kho do opra tmeera
For all its known beauty, it is now deep in ruins
An kikhweh liqtaneh d'Nineveh, khena leltloun o bara
And those bright stars of the Nineveh nights are now with no light
Men shopo halabet noyra, talgo khderele el sara
And it is has now been replaced by the light of the war-fire

-Toole al marzet nara, be zmara w be'spara, al lelawanet d'nineveh
I sat on the edge of the river, singing and waiting, for the nights of Nineveh
lelawate shilye, an sepate milye, men khabraneh khilye
Those quiet nights, with those lips full of things to say, and sweet words

Nouret plasha tpele, beelan prasha dreele, liban men khisha mlele
Then the fire of war erupted, and that caused us to separate, and our hearts were full with sorrow
Rikhqa men ouydale, be sparekh kul lele, al lelawatet d'Nineveh
Away from each other, we are waiting each night, for the Nineveh nights to come back

Repeat

Nouret plasha tpele, beelan prasha dreele, liban men khisha mlele
Then the fire of war erupted, and that caused us to separate, and our hearts were full with sorrow
Rikhqa men ouydale, be sparekh kul lele, al lelawatet d'Nineveh
Away from each other, we are waiting each night, for the Nineveh nights to come back
