A bit surprised this hasn't been talked about yet. Er-dog and his regime have confiscated all churches including some Syriac churches, like Maryam Ana Syriac church which is 1700 years old.

It's doubtful if they will give it back considering their persecution of christians in the country, and we don't even know if these buildings will stay standing considering that they are fighting their fellow animals PKK there.

for what reason were they even confiscated? What did the Assyrians of Turkey do to even deserve this?

And what did we do to deserve that mass genocide 100 years ago?

Nothing.

They're trying to play it off with "Oh it's too dangerous for the time being".

Meanwhile I haven't heard of all the mosques(which are all state funded btw, Assyrians are left to keep their churches going with donations) being shut down like this.

We have every reason to worry because Turkey has had a history of removing christian functionality of ancient churches and turning them into 'historic monuments' for tourism.

Even in a Sunni Secular state they shutdown churches.

Next to them is a country called 'Iran' that is a Shia theocratic state, and it has 600 functional churches and it has more Muslims than Turkey.
