Today, April 15, www.AssyrianVoice.net will celebrate its 15th anniversary!

After some 7 million visits by people from almost every country, thousands of friendships and relationships and a whole new and inspired generation of our nation, we are still here and hope to be here for years to come.

And it's nice to know that some of you reading this were not even born on April 15, 1999 when Assyrian Voice was born and here we are now growing online together.

Thank you to all those who have visited us and supported our website, starting from the days of the first Assyrian voice chat till this day!

15 fun facts about the year 1999 when Assyrian Voice was founded​


1-Bill Clinton was president and most people hadn't even heard of George W. Bush, let alone a 35 year old community organizer named Obama!

2-There was some +1 million Assyrians living in Iraq

3-Saddam Hussein was ruling Iraq with an iron fist!

4-Michael Jordan was just retiring while Kobe was in his rookie season

5-Brazilian Ronaldo had emerged as the best player in the world at just 22 years old

6-The only social network we knew was AOL

7-Google had just started the year before and it was relatively unknown compared to the search leaders at the time, AltaVista.com , InfoSeek.com and others.

8- 9/11 was known as the number you dial to get to police and emergency.

9-Wayne Gretzky, the greatest hockey player in history, was still playing in the NHL

10- East Timur, Kosovo, Montenegro and South Sudan were part of other states and not independent countries 

11- iPhones, Androids, BlackBerry smartphones didn't even exist and the best phone was the Nokia 8210 (google it)

12- Britney Spears, N'Sync and Backstreet Boys, TLC and Jennifer Lopez were some of the the most popular singers and bands at the time. While Justin Bieber was only 4 years old in diapers!

13- American Pie, Eyes Wide Shut and The Matrix were some of the most popular movies in 1999

14- The human population of the world surpassed six billion. Today, in 2014, it is slightly over 7.1 billion

15- And last but not least, we were still living in the 20th century!
