Does jesus really say you cant kill even in selfdefence? If its true then l will have hate against him, no wonder why seyfo happend and our population is in decline for so many years!!! So much brainwashed facking christians assyrians, weak people, we must make them non religious! I believe in science and all should Do that

no, Jesus allowed Self defense. Remember that Jesus said that Christians would be persecuted and that's where the swords verse comes in.

Eshu'a Msheekha knew that his followers would likely die as martyrs "sahdeyn" either by authorities or by regular men, from this he told them to buy swords to protect themselves, at least that's how I understand it.

Our churches tell Assyrians not to be armed for fear of escalating violence with Muslims but Muslims will always incite violence and it doesn't help that our churches are being controlled by Muslim leaders...

I just showed you the verses and the people talking about the verses, you still don't believe it? He did allow it. did Eeshu'a himself not say that we would be persecuted? He knew that we would be treated poorly so the verse for right of self-defense was said.

I don't really believe khon but alot of what the Bible teaches really makes sense in making a stable society. Not to mention that MsheeHutha has alot of what our medieval ancestors already believed in.

For a deist, you surely take the bible literally. Because, in the previous verses, Jesus is talking about "turning the other cheek". What does this tell you in general? The bible has contradictions. Period. Not sure why you're so caught up with the verses, taking them all seriously and linking them from Reddit.

Jesus also had a verse saying "not peace but a sword". For you this would be about Jesus creating war and violence, but for some it's division between families due to their belief in him.

P.S. If you like the idea of a violent Jesus, then be quiet and let the leftists equate Christianity with Islam. And agree with them about the religions being equally violent, and Jesus and Muhammad being two savage warlords.

I take it literal in the sense of Ad Literam which is the doctrine the Catholic Church uses?

in all fairness, it's not easy to know when Jesus is talking literally or figuratively but the part where he says buy a sword seems literal while the "not peace but a sword" portion does sound figurative.

Turning the other Cheek -> http://www.orthodoxchristianity.net/forum/index.php?topic=60179.0

I find that looking at what Orthodox Churches say about this stuff makes the most sense.

On the topic of Turning the other Cheek:
Interestingly, Maria in the thread also writes "Exactly, the church does not command us to volunteer for martyrdom."
Martyrdom is not commanded like how Muslims do in terms of Jihad.

"Turning the other cheek does not mean that we do not resist evil. It means that we do not resist evil with evil, but rather we resist evil with good".

This makes sense in line with other people in history such as Gandi and Martin Luther King jr.
Sometimes you can't fight fire with fire, so you gotta fight it with something else.

I see it that way too.

which is why I believe Assyrians should have a Second Amendment mentality. If we are to really be free and not oppressed, we need the Second Amendment. the USA has more guns than people, maybe we can send a good chunk of it back home?
