ISIS have reached Mosul, Nineveh

Armed fighters believed to be part of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) have seized the northern Iraqi province of Nineveh and freed hundreds of prisoners, government officials say.

Overnight, hundreds of rebels launched an assault on the provincial capital Mosul, 350km north of Baghdad, engaging in combat with troops and police, the officials said on Tuesday.

"The city of Mosul is outside the control of the state and at the mercy of the militants," an Interior Ministry official told the AFP news agency, making it the second city to fall to anti-government forces this year.

Mother of God....

It is getting uglier by the hour. The 'brave' Iraqi army and police have abandoned their equipment and uniforms and fled, which is an absolute shame!!!

The fear now is that ISIS may set its target to the Nineveh Plain next, since it is a majority Christian region and we know how much they love targeting Christians.

Iraq's prime minister has asked parliament to declare a state of emergency, after Islamist militants effectively took control of Mosul.

Nouri Maliki acknowledged "vital areas" of the northern city had been seized.

Overnight, hundreds of men armed with rocket-propelled grenades and machine-guns seized the Nineveh provincial government's offices in Mosul.

They also destroyed several police stations before overrunning the airport and army's operations headquarters.

The fighting in Mosul intensified early Tuesday, when the militants stormed the offices of the provincial governor. Later on Tuesday, the bodies of dead soldiers, police officers and civilians could be seen lying in the streets of the city, along with dozens of burned army and police vehicles, witnesses said. The militants, patrolling the city in pickup trucks and flying the black flag of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, tried to calm civilians by saying that they did not intend to fight the city?s residents. But hundreds of families fled.

Zuhair al-Aaraji, a member of the Iraqi Parliament from Mosul, said that government security forces had fled from some places without firing a shot. ?They left their weapons and their equipment and ran away,? he said. ?All these weapons are under the control of the militants now.?

Think about it: every time ISIS takes over a police station, army post, small town or even a whole region of a big city like in this case, they secure enough weapons to last them for months or even years. And we all know that they have taken over so many of these in the last few months and years which means their supply of weapons and other important equipment and cash is enough for years and years, even if Saudia Arabia and other neighboring countries were to stop funding these terrorists.

So the moral of the story is, the Iraqi army and security forces should do a better job of protecting their weapons and people if they want these terrorists to be deprived of a vital source of weaponry.

Let's hope Pqa'ta d-Ninwe at least stockpiled guns, ammo, food, and water before all this.

EDIT:According to the Wiki, Qaraqosh has 2,000 soldiers in control of the Pqa'ta ninwe.

EDIT2: Iraq might as well fragment into 4 different states; an Assyrian, Kurdish, Sunni, and Shi'a state.

I am sure our people in the Nineveh Plain (Dashta D'Nineweh) are watching and following the events in the city of Mosul closely. While I do hope ISIS doesn't set its sights on them, they should be ready for that possibility.

The governor of Nineveh, Atheel Al-Nujaify has hinted that the 'complacency on the part of the Iraqi security forces may have been intentional' which I myself wouldn't rule out! You can't just fold and leave this quickly, without putting up a fight. You would think ISIS are the state and the Iraqi forces are the terrorists running away from them.

At least 1200 prisoners have been set free by ISIS so far, including some 500 at a high security prison housing some of the worst terrorists captured in Nineveh and Iraq in general in the last few years.

I swear Ashoor: I will leave a vial of my DNA, hop a plane to Arbel or Kirkuk and go to the ninwe plains. Our mass exodus during the war drastically lowered those who would be able to defend the ninwe plains.

ISIS is intentionally opening several fronts to fight the Iraqi army (Falluja, Baqouba, Mosul, Samara, Tikrit etc.) realizing that the Iraqi army is still not capable of fighting more than one or a few wars at a time.

When the US forces left, the Iraqi government assured everyone that its army is now more than ready and capable of fending for itself.

Doesn't look like it...

The KDP and Barzani recently agreed to a deal with the GCC where Saudi Arabia and UAE guaranteed Kurdish Independence in 2014. The Plan B was that if Erdogan's party survives in Turkey and Independence is not achieved by the end of this year the KRG will be annexed into Turkey. Meanwhile the ISIL is AL Qaeda and directly funded by GCC specifically Saudi Arabia and UAE. This may be a chess game to give Barzani a nation and also torture the pro-Assad Shiite Maliki. Then again if the reports are true of Iraqi capitulation throughout Nineveh Province, it could be that the Kurds' masters, Saudi Arabia and UAE, struck a partition deal with Maliki. Meanwhile, the Western powers installing Sisi in Egypt was also part of a larger plan with the GCC to move the Islamists out of North Africa and return it to what it was in 2010. In exchange the GCC gets to sell oil to Egypt at gouged prices. However, the only thing that matters is that 80% of our people in Iraq are at risk of slaughter at this moment. It would take a miracle for a Second Simele to not occur.

WHERE are those Assyrians that for a decade now insisting on keeping Nineveh Plains with the Iraqi government? ADM policies and the people who support them have caused the destruction of an entire Assyrian generation. It's a genocide all over again with thousands leaving the country now.

While ISIS haven't reached Nineveh Plains, the people of Bartella and Bakhdeda are in a emotional crisis. I can't explain to you the horror in these people's voices I'm hearing over the phone for the past 5 days. SO WHAT IS THE PLAN KANA? WHAT DO WE DO?

If Peshmerga forces were not in control of the Bakhdeda-Mosul checkpoint, THERE WOULD BE A MASSACRE OF CHRISTIANS IN THE SIZE OF 1915 GENOCIDE.

AND yes after all this, ADM and their followers insist on not being protected under the KRG.

This is it. It's over. It's just one checkpoint away from a total Assyrian catastrophe.

How can any Assyrian today still insist on calling themselves ''IRAQI''. How can you ever associate yourself with an ARAB country.

Look for our numbers to go below 100,000 now. All this because our nation was never able to create REAL LEADERS. There isn't a tenth of Ashurbanipal in any of today's ''leaders''.

Alaaha rahmanele.

It's called picking up a gun and shooting back.

Our country had real leaders but we choose to listen to church leaders and those who align with tribes over real leaders while our real leaders were getting assassinated as well...

Also, where is our 2,000-manpower Qaraqosh Protection militia?

The strength in ISIS lies in that they camouflage themselves with other Arabic-speakers. They can't camouflage themselves in our land where most people speak Syriac/Kurdish over Arabic.

Imagine how hard it would've been for ISIS to control Iraq had Iraq replaced Arabic with Syriac.

But the middle-east is changing again, we may have a chance to get something, and if we do not prepare ourselves we will be once and for all expelled from our homeland.
Iraq Government to Arm Citizens to Fight Militants: PM
our people have to take every weapon that could be find or give.

That's how life is, my fellow Assyrians, it's survival of the fittest. If we cannot defend ourselves, even in the last swathe of our very homeland, then we will not deserve a nation of our own because we have to be able to defend that nation as well.

ISIS has already burned an Assyrian church in the al-Wahda neighborhood; they have also taken over the Assyrian monastery of Mar Behnam and have been reported to taken over Bakhdida.

I support Assyrian (well daahh I'm Assyrian) , Kurdish and Shi'a state.

But not Sunni because they will try to kill us anyway so there is no point for them, i'm starting to think that the iraqi government supports the ISIS.

Nineveh is also home to a large Christian minority.

In the predominately-Christian town of Hamdaniya, police chief Mohammed Rashid voiced fears there were not enough Iraqi forces in the area to defend against possible attacks by the militants, who have previously made Christians a primary target.

"If they come, they can control Hamdaniya (BAKHDEDA) in five minutes," Rashid warned.

Then if so, go fight for them then complaining.

Not unless Maliki throws some weapons and equipment our way.

What I am really worried about are all the priceless Assyrian artifacts and what they will do to them if they manage to get to them.

What else do you think they will do? They will sell them for more military equipment.... They'll probably sell them to Europeans by giving them to sophisticated-speaking liars in business suits to sell.
