Islam never really promoted science, The "islamic" golden age didn't actually start until the Persian-influenced Abbasid Caliphate. If you notice, most historians mark the end of the "Islamic" golden age as when the Mongols took Baghdad.

At that time, Persians and Assyrians still had their educational institutions and Assyrians were still pioneering medicine.

As soon as all the scholars and professional Assyrians died out, the golden age itself died out and never revived...
