Just when we thought ISIS had done enough damage to our artefacts in Mosul and Nineveh in general, and that the page had been turned, seems like the ISIS mentality never left.
The municipality of Mosul decided to demolish parts of the Assyrian wall of Nineveh to make the adjacent street wider! Wow what an amazing move to make your city better! You left all other streets and came to this section and decided to knock down a historical treasure under this pretext? At least with ISIS we know why they did it: they are simply crazy. But what about this plan by the very city officials and workers. Or is a pretext to further erase any footprint of a former great empire and civilization?
What is next? The mayor of Rome is ordering the demolition of the Colosseum to make way for condos? Or Egyptian authorities deciding to bulldoze the pyramids and build a mall in its place ?
