I am still on the fence when it comes to Neymar’s inclusion, one veteran player I really want to see called is Thiago Silva. He not only brings much needed experience and leadership, he did all the right things in the last 12 months to earn it. To plan and make a comeback to a top team in Portugal and even help them win the league is a big achievement.
Then I have two other important reasons to want to see him called. First, he will be the first Brazilian to finally crack the 5-world cup attendance club. For a country that has never missed any world cups, there is surprisingly few that made it to 4 world cups, never mind 5. Thiago Silva come become the first to achieve this historical honour. The second reason is more of a personal dream of mine. 12 years later -and for a long time from now - the 7-1 disaster still bothers me.
Imagine this: Beating all the odds, 34 year Neymar and 41 year old Silva, after both being out in that game against Germany in Brazil, make it to the squad. Then somehow, fate so has it that Brazil plays Germany in a knockout round, hopefully QF or SF and not only beat them but with a big margin and both play an important role. Yes it different beating them in North America than to beat them at home like they did to Brazil, but this would be quite the story. Never mind if Brazil ends to winning the whole thing.
I have a dream…
