Assyrian Candidates In The Upcoming Swedish Elections 2010

Swedish elections are coming up and I thought I would summarize our candidates. As most of you know Sweden is the country where Assyrians have succeeded most, having two Swedish Assyrian parliamentarians along with being the most integrated non-Nordic ethnicity in the country. Many many Swedish Assyrians will run for the municipality or parliament (including me) but I will here give a brief presentation of the most important ones, but there are seriously so many candidating that I can never take present them all.

Yilmaz Kerimo
He is a graduate from a University of Social Work and Public Administration and has lobbied very hard for our people regarding human rights, the Seyfo Genocide, autonomy/self-rule etc. Without him we would not have seen a recognition of the Assyrian Genocide in Sweden, that is certain. He is a member of the Socialdemocrats.

Ibrahim Baylan
Has also got a University degree and is considered to be the most powerful immigrant in politics. He is currently the party secretary of the Socialdemocrats, being the biggest party in Sweden and if his party wins and e.g. the prime minister decides to step down, he is the man to become the next prime minister. He has lobbied with Kerimo regarding the recognition of Seyfo.

Ninos Maraha
He has a Master's Degree in Business and Economics. He is already in the municipality council of S?dert?lje and is running for the municipality, parliament and county council. Has showed his will to support his people before and this candidate is 2nd on his party's list to the municipal council and 31th to parliament in the People's Party's list. He is the one to the left on the attached image.

Sait Yildiz
He has also got a University Degree even though coming to this country very late and is or was the head of the Assyrian Association in Sweden. He is already in the municipality council and is candidating for the municipality and I believe parliament too. He is 7th on his party's list and has worked for the Assyrian nation his entire life. He is a member of the Left party.

Metin Hawsho
Metin is a teacher and is the Vice President of the People's Party in the municipality of S?dert?lje. He is 37 years old and is candidating for the parliament and municipal council. He's 11th on his party's list for parliament and 4th for the municipal council.

Robert Halef
Robert is 46 years old, a tooth technician and is the head of the Christdemocrats in the municipality of S?dert?lje. He is 1st on his party's list for the municipal council and 5th for parliament.

The thing is, the Red-Green alliance seems to be good for us now but you never know when they are in power. I remember the Moderates saying they were going to recognise the Seyfo Genocide when they were in power and when they came to power they voted against it's recognition while the Red-Green alliance voted for it.

Robert Halef for president  :giggle:

LOL, could you imagine:

Y. Kanna president of Iraq as the same time Ibrahim Baylan prime minister of Sweden.. And for our nation? Nothing. Hahahaha :D

Vote for the Leftists! I love that so many Assyrians (in the Eastern hemisphere...with better public schools and public news outlets) are Leftists!

I'm not sure about the Leftists. If they decide Sweden will turn Muslim in a century lol.

Trust me, i love socialism more than anything in politics and i think that everyone should have a chance in live and get help with everything. But the problem now is that the left parties are so incapable of handling Sweden at the time, and the general director of the party is so stupid... Besides i voted for the the social liberals last time and they really did a great job the last 4 years, they actually saved Sweden from collapse and made it the most successful country in Europe during the crises... Even though many had it tough it was not the social liberals fault because we had a crisis which all of the world suffered from... Also in Sweden all parties are social no matter what :D our right party is like USAs most lefty party if not more to the left than that...

Whether you vote for them this time is not the point: you guys are progressives. I love it. the_dave - the USA's most famous leftist president, Franklin Roosevelt, saved capitalism from itself in the 30s through social welfare programs.

Also...it is awfully telling that when xenophobia or racism takes root in a population, they run to right wing parties. I guess they feel at home there :)

Indeed i am familiar with USAs social past, it really was a good time for the American people back then. To bad they changed it and made anything that has to do with socialism "communistic" and starting to talk about the "Red Scare". Well from what we hear over here, Obama is doing quite some good things that are going towards the social direction. That is good if its not another trick to do some bad things again... Hopefully if the worlds most powerful nation shows a good example of welfare to all of its people and that socialism is a really good ideology for all countries, maybe more nations will follow... Because, the tiny little Sweden can't do that much alone...

What is your unemployment program like there?

Actually, you know what? I will start a new thread for this discussion, because I am curious about some things from the non-American AVNers.

Sure thing...

Updates: Many of our candidates got into the municipality councils around the country. Yilmaz Kerimo lost his parliament seat but will still be in the parliament as a replacer for some months or perhaps even the whole period. Robert Halef, an Assyrian associating with the Aramean ideology got into the parliament due to his position on the party list and due to the fact that nobody on his list managed to get more votes than him even though he only had 1008 votes. Yilmaz Kerimo got about 4400 votes.

Updates: All in all 4 Assyrians will be in the Swedish parliament and they are:
1) Ibrahim Baylan with 8484 votes
2) Yilmaz Kerimo with 4200 votes
3) Robert Halef with 1008 votes
4) Roger Haddad with 1146 votes

This is a huge success for our people as we are an integral part of the Swedish society and are contributing the best we can as we also help our nation in need. The Assyrian candidates constitute 1,1% of all seats which is 4 out of 365 seats. It is worth to mention that many Assyrians have been elected to the municipality councils.

Roger Haddad is with the People's Party (Liberal) in Sweden. I do not know much of the guy to be honest but on his blog he writes that he is from Lebanon and 32 years old. He's got a masters in Political science too.

And yes you are correct. Robert Halef is anti-Assyrian and hopefully he will not make a fool of himself and  our people by focusing on the nameissue in parliament.

I believe there is at least 1 Iranian in the parliament as for now. Turks have at least 1. Arabs I do not know. But Kurds do not have 5 seats from what I know, they got around 2-3. If they are 5, could you tell us who they are? Tawdi-basima
