What's this mysterious body of light that appeared in Nineveh, Iraq yesterday?

On the night of Wednesday Jan 21, there was numerous sightings of a body of light over several Assyrian towns and villages in the Nineveh Plain (Alqosh) as well as Ankawa in Arbil, Iraq. Many of those displaced from their homes in the Nineveh Plain and now living in refugee tents in Ankawa, came out at night droves to witness this strange phenomenon.

According to various eyewitness accounts who saw the light, it was red in color. People differed on what it could be: UFO sighting? an appearance of the Virgin Mary? a Sprite? something else?

Most thought it was probably an apparition of the Virgin Mary.

According to witness accounts there have been a few Mat Mariam apparitions. I know one where a statue of Mat Mariam started crying blood. It was posted over the summer I hope I can find it.
